The Big Five-Oh!

We only had one evening to sleep off our traveling exhaustion, and then it was time for a surprise or two...because Grandma Becky turned 50 years old!

Isn't she such a pretty lady? Ashton is lucky that he has two gorgeous grandmas! Well, Becky's birthday was on a Sunday, so when we were done with church we went up to their house. We said we had somewhere we were going to take them that was a surprise, so we all got in the car and drove to it. (Trust me, you want to know what this surprise is...but you'll have to wait, because it merits its very own post...) While we were gone on our surprise, Becky's sister Tami and all of her kids snuck into the house and set up a great surprise party! They had the place decked out beautifully, with flowers and balloons and everything. When we got home, Becky was so surprised! She said she's never had a surprise party before, so I was glad we thought to do it for her.

Here are the beautiful flowers Tami made to put on the tables...the tablecloths and balloons were black, of course, but everything else was bursting with bright colors.

And here is the cake Tyler made. I was supposed to do it, but I was so exhausted from traveling that I just couldn't get out of bed, so Tyler did it for me. What a guy!

The bottom is chocolate cake with chocolate fudge frosting with chocolate oreos mixed in. It was SO good! The tombstones are carrot cake with fat-free cream cheese frosting--just for Becky. And yes, the middle one says, "Mother." Becky thought it was funny. :)
And here's everyone waiting for the food to be done. But for some reason, nobody would look when I wanted to take their picture...

Here's Michael, cooking dinner on the barbecue.

Ashton couldn't enjoy the real food, but he sure loved these little sweet potato crackers. This was the first time he'd ever put food in his mouth and fed himself, all on his own. Too bad we didn't know they had wheat and oat flour in them, so it gave him a bad rash... :(

And then there were presents! A Cafe Rio card from Kyle.
Here's the one we gave Becky:

A wok for making fried rice! Mmm...

And here's Tami's gift.
(What cute sisters they are!)

A beautiful sapphire ring.

And the best one of all, from Carlton...

A weekend getaway to see Donny and Marie in Vegas!

She was quite happy about that one. :)

I'd say that was a pretty lucrative birthday. And we had a fun time. Too bad it can't be your 50th birthday every day!

Happy Birthday, Grandma!!!
