One Month Old!

Tristan, you are one month old today!  But I'm sorry, baby boy.  The day went by and this was the best I could do:

You are still beautiful, even if my attempts at a photo were not.  Hopefully next month I'll do better!

Babysitting with Grandma

We left Tristan with our most favorite babysitter, Grandma Becky, for the first official time so that we could go see Mary Poppins in Salt Lake.  I was a little antsy about it, just because that's how I am.  But luckily Becky was kind enough to send me happy pictures of my tiny baby so that I would rest easy during the play.

It looks like Ashton might have helped out a little.

And Elliott too!  Becky said that Elliott was guarding Tristan while he slept, because Ashton kept running around like a wild man.  (Big surprise there.)

I know we probably don't say it enough, but we are SO GRATEFUL to have someone close by who loves our kids and is willing to watch them so much for us.  I'm sure we take advantage of them way too often, and I don't think I could ever say THANK YOU enough!

When Mommy Gets Overwhelmed...

...she feeds the baby and reads her friends' blogs, secretly hoping to find that she isn't the only overwhelmed mother in the world.  And she takes way too many pictures with her cell phone.  (Strange, but true.)

And Ashton has a great time, because he gets to pick videos to watch on sesamestreet.org.

I love it.  Cute, fun, and educational.  I don't feel as bad letting him watch it if he gets to learn something, too...

Fuzzy

I love when you give new babies a bath and the fuzz on their head stands up.

Too. Dang. Adorable.

Singing to Tristan

This is more for the benefit of my memory than anything else.  When we got up this morning, Ashton asked to hold Tristan, and then he started singing to him.  I thought it was so adorable, so I took a video of when he sang "Popcorn Popping."  Unfortunately, it was pretty early, so it was still pretty dark.  On the camera you could still see it, but I guess on the computer it's just too dark.  But you can sort of see if you blow it up big.  Sorry.  But at least you can hear him.  He was so cute singing to him and doing all the hand motions.  The best part was when Tristan lifted his little fist, and Ashton stopped and said, "Tristan's doing it!"  So so cute.  I want to remember it forever.

Having a Big Brother

It's the greatest.

They sing you songs.

They talk really close to your face.

Sometimes they even try to squish--I mean, sit by--you.

And the best part is, they love you.

Tired

 Daddy's face says it all:

New babies = less sleep.  We knew it was coming.  Didn't make it any easier.  I will note, however, that Tristan is the best sleeper I could imagine any baby being.  Sleep goes a lot further if you can get it in 4 hour chunks...  Still, it's hard to be sleep deprived.

But he's so sweet, I can (mostly) forgive him waking me up.

More Visitors

Just before Tristan was three weeks old, my dad came down to meet him, along with Patrick and Alexis. It was a very quick weekend trip, and we didn't do anything particularly exciting. It was mostly just an excuse to sit around cuddling with the new baby, spending time together, and taking a zillion pictures.

And of course there was plenty of playing with Ashton. He is always thrilled to have his grandpa, aunt, and uncle around.

They played with him so much, he was completely worn out!

A quick trip, but a very good trip. We were really glad to have them here with us.

Babies

In an attempt to teach Ashton to be gentle with babies, we bought and borrowed a couple of little dolls for him to play with. Thankfully, I think it's working! And it's so cute to watch him play with them. He takes them for walks in the stroller:

And he pretends that they spit-up. He says, "He's puking!" and then he kind of smashes it with a blanket or burp rag:

And he pretends to nap with them. Never mind that the doll supposedly just puked on the blanket...

And all the while, Tristan gets to enjoy some relaxing alone time, sunbathing in his swing, free from the squishing and smothering of his big brother.

Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind a little hammock in the sun right about now...

Awake and Alert

Nowadays Tristan is awake a little more and very alert. It's fun to watch him watch what's going on and look at everyone around him.

Sometimes I think he wonders what he's gotten himself into...

A Comparison

Just thought I'd do a little comparison for the fun of it. Here are some pictures of Ashton when he was almost 3 weeks compared to Tristan when he was 2 weeks. (Ashton is always on the top or left, and Tristan is always on the bottom or right.)

It's so interesting that they look so similar and so different at the same time. (At least to me...) Also, another comparison: at two weeks old, Ashton weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long. Tristan weighs 7 pounds 8 ounces and is 21 inches long.

Just thought you'd wanna know... :)

Newborn Pics! (aka 2 Weeks Old)

I'm sad to say it took me a whole two weeks to bust out the nice camera and take Tristan's newborn pictures. But it's not my fault, I was bedridden! I finally felt better, though, so it was time to take endless pictures of my handsome newborn baby. And if you don't believe me when I say endless, keep scrolling... (And super-special thanks to Tyler for helping me with the whole thing!)

(Ashton was not being very helpful at this point...)

We love you, Tristan, and we're so glad you've come to our family!!!
